Mines
"Ladders that seem to go nowhere and that rely on nothing as if they were from a dream"
In this series, I go back to my roots: my escapades with my father inside Brazil and the gem mines; leading us into this magical and timeless world where the human being is an integral part of this strong and rough nature with raw colours crushed by an omnipresent sun. Crazy hopes of wealth in the face of daily pain and sweat.
I was especially impressed by the simplicity, the naivety, the happiness and the joie de vivre expressed continuously by these Brazilians living day by day in material conditions which are sometimes very difficult.
Artists who inspired me in this work: Turner, Sebastian Salgado
Technique: mixed media, acrylics, natural pigments, marble powder, wax, gold leaves
